Field kit for Florida daylight

A summer live take in Orlando asks five functions of the bag: cut the sun, stop the wind on the capsule, keep a spare battery out of the dash, let the body equalize before the lens opens, and add daylight-balanced fill when the face falls into skull-shadow. The names below are functions first. Specs come from the maker pages already cited in the craft lesson.

Neutral density

Noon at 92°F is also noon at high illuminance. ND lets a 1/50 or 1/60 shutter survive that sky so motion looks like video instead of a staccato. Pair it with the 5600K white balance on the craft lesson.

Fur windshield

RØDE’s DeadCat is built for the VideoMic “in windy recording environments,” with acoustically transparent synthetic fur. Foam is for plosives indoors. Fur is for the lake breeze.

Spare batteries in the shade

Sony’s precautions warn against extremely hot storage, including a car parked in the sun. Lithium packs follow the body. Keep spares in the bag, not on the dash, and rotate before the camera hits the 104°F ceiling they print.

Sealed bag for the AC-to-park walk

Sony’s condensation help: bringing kit from an air-conditioned car or room into a hot place outside is a listed cause. Seal the body until it reaches ambient. About an hour is the wait they write when condensation has formed.

Daylight LED as fill

Aputure’s LS 60d: 5600K, CRI ≥96, TLCI ≥98, 54,300 lux at 1 m in 15° spot, weather-resistant head, battery options including NP-F and D-Tap. At three metres the same spot is 7,602 lux. That is fill against Florida sun, not a replacement for it.

Uplink that matches the encoder

Live 1080p30 on YouTube Help’s H.264 table wants about 10 Mbps CBR plus overhead. Test the phone or bonded link in the same park, at the same hour, before the take that matters.

How to pack the order

  1. Power and thermal

    Charged packs, one in the body, spares in shade, white cloth over the camera between takes.

  2. Sound

    Lav or shotgun plus the fur. Headphones. Riff wears a pair for a reason.

  3. Picture control

    ND, daylight LED if you will be in open shade, and a white-balance card.

  4. Land-manager paper

    Park hours, any Film Commission confirmation, and a plan that does not need a tent unless you have the written authorization the city park rules require.

Why the LS 60d and not a newer head?
Because Aputure still publishes a complete photometric and environmental sheet for it. A newer Storm-series page works the same way. Read CCT, CRI, lux at 1 m, and operating temperature. Walkthrough on reading a spec sheet.
